Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI) is currently seeking candidates for Tenure-track Researcher Position.

2. Recruiting Division and Job description

  JASRI is a public interest incorporated foundation that main activities are facility operation support such as operation, maintenance, and management of the accelerators and beamline facilities of a large synchrotron radiation facility SPring-8, and performance improvement of the-high-performance, as well as facilities use promotion such as technical support for users of SPring-8/SACLA, and public awareness activities.
  We are seeking people who will be engaged in these tasks while addressing your own research, and research development with technology development themes.

3. Required Qualifications

  Applicants should have or expecting to receive a Ph.D. of natural sciences by the time of employment. 
  Those who are willing to carry out their duties on their initiative based on the business plan of JASRI.
  No research or work experience in the synchrotron radiation field is necessary.

4. Start of Employment

  April 1st, 2023
  (It is possible to take up the position before this date.)

5. Contract Period

  A contract period for Tenure-track Researcher will be renewed every year, and up to a total of 3 years from the date of employment.

[Appointment of the Permanent (until retirement age) Researcher ]
  An examination for becoming permanent employment researchers will be conducted during the contract period. 
  Those who pass the examination will be assigned to a permanent (until retirement age) researcher after the expiry of the contract period of Tenure-track Researcher (3 years).
  There is also a career path to be promoted to a permanent researcher (in charge of technology) after confirming candidate’s wish.

7. Salary and Benefits

  Working hours 9:00-17:30 (12:00-13:00 break)
  Base salary: Determined according to applicant’s career
        【Basic salary model】 Doctoral Degree 257,100 yen(FY2021 results)
  Allowance: Research allowance, Overtime allowance,
         Commuting allowance (up to55,000 yen/ month),
                       Housing allowance (up to 28,000 yen/ month),
                       Dependent allowance, Late-night allowance, Radiation worker allowance, Term-end allowance
  Remarks: Monthly salary model
       5 years of experience after completion of doctoral degree  360,000 yen
       (including overtime allowance for 20 hours)
  Raise in base salary:Once a year(April)
  Holiday:Saturdays, Sundays, National holidays, and Year-end and New year holidays (Dec. 29-Jan. 3)
  Leave:Annual paid leave, Special paid leave (seasonal leave, congratulation or condolence leave, etc.)
  Insurance::Health insurance, welfare pension insurance, employment insurance, workers' compensation insurance

  ・Describe the guideline of your research activities and achievements.

 ③Research plan (aspiration, etc.) after employment
  ・Describe what you can contribute to JASRI and what you want to do, etc..
   (within 2 pages of A4 size paper)
 ④List of achievements (List of presented papers or conference presentations)
  ・List publications, conference presentations, and awarded competitive funds
         on an A4 size paper as much as you can open to the public.
 ⑤Up to five copies of publications that represent your best work
  ・There is no specific format.
 ⑥One or more recommendation letters
  ・Recommender must be an external person of JASRI.
  ・Recommendation from applicant him/herself is NOT accepted.
  ・There is no specific format.
 ⑦Declaration of applicable specific categories

    June 30, 2022, 3:00 p.m. (Japan Time)

10. Selection procedure and Schedule

(1)Screening of the documents
   After the application deadline, we will screen applications and contact people who pass the screening about
         the schedule of a job interview by e-mail.
   (Around mid-July)
(2)Job interview
   Those who passed the screening will have an interview. 
         Also, we will contact persons who passed the job interview about the schedule of a 2nd interview by email.
   (Around late-July)
   ・The interview will last 40 minutes.
    (20 minutes for Presentation and 20 minutes for Q&A session)
   ・It will consist of the following two topics in the interview.
    ① Your research career and activities, and achievements
    ② How you will apply your research achievements to your work at JASRI after employment
(3)The 2nd interview (General interview)
   Executive officers will interview candidates.
   (Around early-August)

11. Handling personnel data

  Submitted documents are strictly protected under the JASRI Privacy Policy and will be used only for the purpose of applicant screening.

12. Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act (FEFTA)

  In accordance with the revision of the FEFTA, applicants will be required to submit a “Declaration of applicable specific categories” when applying for this position. In addition, a  “confirmation letter” will be required to submit at the time of employment.
